Our Story
In January 2011, a group of concerned neighbors met in a friend’s living room to discuss the negative and divisive tone that surrounded our City Council’s work on housing.
We wanted to do something to make the debate more fact-based and respectful and inform the public of how housing decisions would affect Novato for the long term.
So Stand Up for Neighborly Novato was born. We are a grassroots organization whose goal is to work to implement policies that provide more reasonably-priced housing options to help our community and preserve Novato’s hometown character.
We also want to help Novato residents see through the shouting, scare tactics and wedge politics and make sure that individual housing proposals be judged on their own merit.
Stand Up for Neighborly Novato intends to be a partner in building consensus for a certified housing element, recognizing that over a hundred successful affordable neighborhoods of all sizes have already been created throughout Marin.
